Reading. Driving. Lifting. And Turning Your Head…

Turning Your HeadIt’s easy to take these movements for granted until something – like neck pain – occurs and these seemingly simple tasks become extremely painful and maybe even impossible. According to recent statistics, neck pain is the eighth most common reason people visit their doctor – and it is estimated that about 70 percent of us will suffer from neck pain at some point in our lives. Neck pain can be caused by several factors, most commonly: whiplash, herniated or bulged discs, degenerated discs, arthritis, neck strains and tension headaches.
The neck is a very complex structure. As a result, strengthening neck muscles can be difficult using traditional physical therapy. When the cervical spine gets weak, specific muscles usually lose strength. The Multi-Cervical Unit (MCU), was designed to test all neck muscles, diagnose which are weak, and provide a detailed program to restore these muscles to their original strength.
The Multi-Cervical is a digitally interfaced system that allows for the real-time recording of cervical spine movement and isometric strength in more than 1,000 unique positions. The system also features a dynamic strengthening program for cervical spine conditions. A significant need exists for effective and reliable evaluation and treatment of cervical injuries. Traditional treatment programs have relied upon rest, medication and manipulation practices; however, the results have been limited, as an emphasis was not placed upon the functional restoration of the neck.
The Multi-Cervical Unit enables the clinician to evaluate and restore strength and function of the cervical spine. The system has been used with remarkable success and has been featured on television news programs across the United States, Canada, and Australia. MCU succeeds in treating neck pain where other therapies have failed because it emphasizes the restoration of neck movement and strength.
Studies have shown that after MCU therapy, patients’ pain levels were reduced, strength levels improved, and more than 90 percent of MCU patients made a full recovery! Restoring strength is key to the lasting results patients are experiencing; a vast majority of patients maintained their strength and pain relief at their one year follow-up evaluations. MCU therapy is also currently the only system that provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment all in one system.
Multi-Cervical Unit Treatment Available in Florida
In late 2008, Active Health Center at Weinberg Chiropractic acquired the MCU II, and was the first practice in the state of Florida to treat patients using the machine. There are slightly more than one hundred such machines in the world, and Dr. Weinberg is proud that his office can offer the MCU treatment to patients. After seeing Dr. Weinberg achieve such great and lasting results for his patientsFlorida offices have added the MCU technology to their treatment options.
The Multi-Cervical Unit is the most comprehensive cervical evaluation and rehabilitation system available in the world. “The MCU is diagnostic as well as therapeutic,” reflects Dr. Weinberg. “Once we find the source of weakness in the neck, the machine goes to work. There’s no other machine out there that will actually locate the source of neck weakness as accurately and in as many directiaons as the MCU II does. Neck weakness is the piece of the neck pain puzzle that most other treatments mistakenly ignore, and that is why the pain frequently returns once these other treatments are stopped.”
The part of the MCU that patients use looks like a piece of Nautilus exercise equipment, and indeed it works like a weightlifting machine for the neck. However, assures Dr. Weinberg, a patient doesn’t have to be a weightlifter to use it. Dr. Behrue adds, “It is easy to use, completely painless, and patients typically see and feel results within just three to five weeks.”
The MCU provides such great results because it is a restorative, as opposed to manipulative, approach to the treatment of cervical spine injuries. The MCU rehabilitation program is designed to increase cervical range of motion and strength, while providing the practitioner with the documentation to track progress and make the necessary modifications to the treatment program.
The MCU has been featured on many different television programs highlighting the remarkable outcomes achieved due to the protocols and programs associated with the Unit. The MCU can be and has been included within the treatment plan in workers’ compensation, non-motor vehicle personal injury cases, motor vehicle and sports injury situations. It is the preferred neck pain treatment protocol for many in the sports and military fields.
MCU treatment sessions can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes with varying frequencies depending on the amount of damage the patient presents with. The treatment program is based upon the severity of the injury and progress rate during treatment.
