How Does NAD+ aid in anti-aging?
First, NAD+ may lengthen telomeres, the repetitive sequence of DNA Strands that cap the ends of chromosomes. The longer the telomeres, the younger the physiological age of the individual and the less likely to develop age related diseases. Second, NAD+ promotes DNA repair. Third, NAD+ modulates immune-cell signaling. This is a critical factor in maintaining defenses against infections and autoimmune diseases. Fourth, NAD+ is a neurotransmitter. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that send signals between nerve cells. As such, NAD+ appears essential for maintaining brain health, and may have promising results in neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.
